Breakout Sessions

THURSDAY MORNING, 10:15 A.M.

Discipleship or Disciple-making?

David Ludwig, BRN Associate Director of Healthy Churches

To make the greatest impact in our mission, we have to make disciples who make disciples who make disciples. In other words, we must shift our focus from making disciples to making disciple-makers. David Ludwig will share a useful framework that will enable us to shift from an addition to a multiplication mindset.

Reaching Gen Z in a Post-Christian Culture

Robert Turner, Director of BRN Next

Kim Carson, Collegiate Minister, California University of Pennsylvania

Understanding young adult and student culture is an ongoing challenge. Those of us who work with students have to continuously be students of these younger generations, as what worked in the past won’t necessarily work now and will need to be re-thought for the future. Come learn of some of the distinctives of Gen Z, the generation that is just now entering their college years.

Who’s Your One?

Rob Wilton, Pastor, Vintage Church, Pittsburgh

Who’s your one? Imagine if every member of your church could answer that question with the name of a person. How would it change your community? We have tools to help you inspire and equip your congregation to be on mission.

Prayerwalking Experience

Michael and Julianne Nerger. Michael is church planting catalyst for the North American Mission Board.

We will have a short overview of what prayerwalking is and how it can be effective, followed by a nice walk into the surrounding community to pray for people to come to Christ, a potential church planter, and other prayer concerns we see along the way. Please dress accordingly and put on your walking shoes, because we are going prayerwalking!

THURSDAY LUNCH, 12 P.M.

8 Million Stories: Which Comes First – Stories or Brand?

Brandon Pickett, Vice President, Innovative Faith Resources

Shannon Baker, BRN Director of Communications

God has given you and your ministry unique stories of His grace and purpose. Your job is to discover your church’s storyline. How you tell the stories of your ministry directly impacts what people think and believe about your ministry. Learn how to spot those stories and tell them in a way that causes your community to stop and listen.

Ask Me Why I am Not in Church

Larry Anderson, BRN Director of Healthy Churches

Based on strategies in the book of the same name, written by Pastors Larry Anderson and Kyle Canty, this training offers pastors, leaders and individuals the opportunity to be equipped in training congregations to consistently reach their context.

Leadership Pipeline

Brad Wingler, pastor of Edinboro Community Church

Your church can never grow beyond your current level of leadership. Does your church need a better process for multiplying disciples, ministries and leaders at all levels? This breakout will seek to add clarity to your leadership development, discipleship growth, and overall church vision.

FRIDAY MORNING, 8 A.M.

Abuse Prevention Policies and Practices

Attorney Davis Younts, Crisp and Associates, LLC

Drawing on eighteen years of experience, Attorney Davis Younts will lead a discussion-oriented breakout session on the prevention of abuse in churches. Attendees will be led through a series of questions using real world case studies. The session is designed to raise awareness and provide practical guidance to church leaders.

Leadership Pipeline (repeat)

Brad Wingler, pastor of Edinboro Community Church

Your church can never grow beyond your current level of leadership. Does your church need a better process for multiplying disciples, ministries and leaders at all levels? This breakout will seek to add clarity to your leadership development, discipleship growth, and overall church vision.

Reaching Future Generations Think Tank

Barry Whitworth, BRN Executive Director

Robert Turner, Director of BRN Next

In a participant-led discussion, Barry Whitworth and Robert Turner will examine what it takes to share Christ effectively with a generation not entirely impressed by today’s church.

A prayer room will also be available in Keystone A for the duration of the meeting.

Statement and Encouragements to BRN Churches Regarding Abuse of Minors and Vulnerable Adults

The Baptist Resource Network of Pennsylvania/South Jersey (BRN) makes the following statement in support of the prevention of abuse and for the protection of minors and vulnerable adults. As an organization we recognize we have no authority over any church however it is our intention to encourage all churches affiliated with the BRN to be in full compliance with state law and diligently guard those whom God has given us for the purpose of ministry.

BRN Constitution & Bylaws

Upon review of the current BRN Constitution & Bylaws from BRN legal counsel, the 2018 Constitution & Bylaws Committee worked most of the year to process much needed revisions. The goal of the committee was to have a Constitution & Bylaws document that can be a foundation for the BRN for many years to come. They made revisions that are up-to-date with current laws concerning non-profits, revisions to streamline the BRN operations, and revisions to clearly articulate when the BRN Policies & Procedures Manual will be the guide for the BRN administrative and operational duties. At the 2019 Annual Meeting, messengers will vote on the proposed document.
